Dennis
Davis is a commercial photographer serving Los Angeles and Southern California with

is the most important thing about a photograph," says Davis. "Anybody
can point a camera, but the art and science of understanding and controlling
light separates the weekend shooters from the pros. Photography is
painting with light. I try to use and manipulate light to make my
images look three dimensional - you can almost feel the textures on
the page. I love creating images with bold, saturated colors, and close-up,
in-your-face style that stop the viewer from flipping pages and say
'wow, that's cool'."

There will always be photographers with a lower price then Mr. Davis, but do they provide a good value? This is what John Ruskin, back in the nineteenth century said about cost versus worth:
“It’s unwise to pay too much, but it is worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money – that is all.
When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot -- it can’t be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better.

About Dennis Davis
Dennis Ray Davis (1957, Modesto, California) is a Los Angeles Photographer best known for his commercial and advertising photography. His range of specialties includes food, product, corporate, advertising, portrait and architectural photography.

Corporate clients include FedEx, Bank of America, Wells Fargo Insurance, Avis Rental Cars, U.P.S., Hewlett Packard, Intel Corporation, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Owens Corning, NASA, Laidlaw and Airbus. His celebrity subjects include Will Smith, Steven Spielberg, Rex Lynn and Leonardo DiCaprio. His work has appeared in numerous publications including Weekly Reader, Builder, Baking and Snack, PC Magazine, Beverage Dynamics, Pro AV Magazine and Human Resource Executive.
Biography
Dennis Davis grew up in Modesto, California and spent time every summer of his teenage years photographing Yosemite National Park with his Kodak Brownie camera. At age 19 he was asked to help create a slide show to promote a summer camp in Yosemite, and was loaned a Nikon camera for the shoot. This project confirmed his love affair with photography, and two years later he was able to obtain his own 35mm camera system. He would read books on photography at night, and experiment during the day, shooting people, flowers and still life. Three months after getting his first 35mm camera, several of his images were used for a brochure, launching his start in commercial photography.
Mr. Davis opened his first photography studio in Columbus, Georgia, and soon was asked to shoot an 80 page catalog for a camping and military supply store. The following year he was asked to shoot an expanded version of the catalog, which helped finance his move to Denver, Colorado where he live for 12 years where he photographed for King Soopers grocery stores and other commercial clients.
Longing to return to his native California, Mr. Davis started a photography business in San Diego in 2002, and moved it to Los Angeles in 2004. He now works in a 1,700 square foot studio / loft in downtown Los Angeles.
Speaking and Writing
Dennis Davis wrote an article on food photography that appeared in the December 2004 issue of Shutterbug Magazine. He taught a class on photography websites for Samy’s Camera of Los Angeles in 2007. He taught a course on Adobe PhotoShop for The Art Academy of San Diego. Most recently he chaired a panel discussion on changes and advances in the commercial photography field for Advertising Photographers of America and American Society of Media Photographers members. |
